Schulich Singers, Cappella Antica and Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée explore works by J.S. Bach and Allegri’s infamous Miserere, a mythical work written for the Sistine chapel in the Vatican. It is said that transcribing it or singing it elsewhere than in this place would have been punished by excommunication, although despite this, several composers, including Mozart and Mendelssohn, transcribed this unique piece in order to disseminate it throughout Europe. The piece is known for the high C sung by the soprano - a unique technique for the time that gives chills to the listeners even several centuries later.
