A site filled with light

Not even the most experienced urban explorers will recognize the Quartier des spectacles this winter! For one thing, it's never been this colourful and brilliantly illuminated. The festival will help us all re-discover our fave spots—from De Bleury to St-Urbain and De Maisonneuve to Ste-Catherine—thanks to progressive architectural lighting, created by Marc Tétreault and Jean Laurin, illuminating buildings and public spaces in varied ways; for example, emphasizing their vertical or horizontal lines.

À propos de Stern Most of our installations and activities will also feature special lighting: the LED panel stage, perfectly suited to both artists' performances and dynamic light displays, the excitingly original light installations, interactive boxes that distort images, an astonishing photomaton, video mapping stations, an interactive laser that projects works created by festival fans onto the Wilder building, an illuminated multicoloured dancefloor, the gaze of gigantic eyes, following us from atop their screens, the iridescent colours of the enormous sphere and domes, the illuminated Ferris Wheel, and of course the luminous, multicoloured and thoroughly mindblowing Slide. You'll even see illuminated characters strolling around the site!

This playful use of lighting will reach its zenith with the mega-projection À propos de Stern, which will bring the east wall of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan to life. This audiovisual spectacle created by Geodezik and Marc Leclair will be presented three times nightly, every night during the festival, transforming, distorting, transfiguring and deconstructing the building with video-mapping techniques. In practical terms, the façade will come to life with spectacular projections creating movement, characters reminiscent of those by Magritte, or even those from Alice in Wonderland and Star Wars, and droll, hilarious or even psychedelic scenarios. Get set for a stunning and innovative visual adventure that promises to be a real eyeful!
