This is where winter happens!
Last year, the festival returned to its roots, setting up its massive free outdoor
site in the downtown core zone where it was born: the Place des Festivals and its
environs. Brilliant! The heart of the city has never looked as lovely and festive
in mid-winter, because the MEL lighting displays and creations made it seem like
the entire Quartier des Spectacles was smiling! The party is right at home again
this year with a ton of activities for all, most of them free—the
Ferris Wheel, lighting displays designed
by the tandem responsible for last year’s magnificent progressive architectural
lighting, Marc Tétreault and Jean Laurin,
crowdthrilling performances,
Buenos Aires in photos, the return of our famed
gourmet pit-stops and the
gigantic interactive urban slide…
Among the new additions, we’d like to point out the
immersive 360° movie theatre,
interactive projections creating characters on the façades
of buildings, a photo exhibit for the 10th anniversary
of Nuit blanche, interactive balloons,
the mega-projection on the Maison du Festival
Rio Tinto Alcan, the massive gathering
for a “family photo” of fans holding sparklers and—the cherry
on the sundae—a considerably enlarged “playground” with the addition of the
Promenade des Artistes and the
Parterre… And that’s just a first glimpse of all the action and fun!
