NUIT BLANCHE À MONTRÉAL 2015

La Nuit blanche à Montréal 2015

2015 PROGRAM REVIEW

The 12th edition of the Nuit blanche à Montréal presented by Hydro-Québec ended in the wee hours of Sunday, March 1, offering a magnificent defining moment to a week of incomparable festivities in this 16th edition of MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE. Wow! What a night of passion, surprises, and discoveries! Take 3 districts and 2 poles (connecting 8 neighbourhoods), add in 200 activities, most of them free, and you get 350,000 visits in a matter of hours. From the Stade Olympique to Mile End, Villeray to Old Montréal, the entire city was illuminated by the same spirit. featuring 11 activity categories, there’s something for every taste and age group: from art devotees to videogamers, dancers to foodies, music maniacs to swimmers!

The raw numbers prove it all. Almost 40,000 people flocked to the Place des Arts and ARTVstudio, while the TOHU welcomed 3650 guests, in its first Nuit blanche. The Quartier Latin hosted 40,000 visits, with people racing to activities offered by UQAM, on the outdoor sites of Montréal joue and RVCQ. There was a ton of energy at the Musée d’art contemporain, with 7000 people cruising through the 8 participating galeries of the Belgo, and 100,000 enjoying the sights of the Art souterrain circuit. Finally, the Pôle Parc Olympique registered record attendance of 17,300, while the Pôle Ligne bleue, back for a second year, was also popular. Some activities created for the Nuit blanche eventually become classics, which can be recreated year after year—like the Cabaret du Monument-National, the Elvis Gratton Picture Show at the RCVQ, Nuit SPASM at Café Cléopâtre, Karnival in Club Soda, Nuit de bricolage in Galerie Monastiraki, Nuit de poésie or la Nuit des contes.

Of course, the Nuit blanche de Montréal once again proved to be a unique event on the Montreal landscape: one wild night, when everything is allowed, one night when Montrealers get to reclaim their winter-torn city and redefine it.
