Alain Lefèvre
He was with us for the very first edition of MEL, raising the curtain on the closing concert presented by the OSM performing John Corigliano’s piano concerto—and earning a 10-minute ovation from the 4,000-strong crowd! The following year, the pianist was back at MEL to unveil his talents as a composer for the first time with Lylatov, a recital that also featured pieces by Satie, Mathieu and Ginastera, among others. In 2004, he returned to our stage to present his magnificent Carnet de notes, consisting entirely of his own compositions. And once again, only MEL can bring in Lefèvre the composer—who plays far less frequently than Lefèvre the performance artist!—for a unique recital as honorary copresident of the 2013 edition. He will notably feature pieces from his last two albums of compositions, for the first time onstage at MEL. Just imagine the astonishing technique and moving lyricism of this genuine Québécois musical genius, magnified and enhanced by the acoustic magic of the Maison symphonique
