A dazzling cultural program
Buenos Aires will also colour our artistic program. Expect our honorary co-president
Daniel Piazzolla—grandson
of Argentinean tango master Astor—but also prepare for an extraordinary opening
spectacle: La Pista Tango in Théâtre
Maisonneuve, the stunning marriage of circus arts, tango and illustration.
It’s entirely in keeping with the philosophy of MEL, which has continually welcomed
all genres and encouraged the most original creations since its very 1st edition!
The formula will be repeated for three nights in Métropolis, and in its most festive
version, a characteristically Argentinean milonga inviting spectators to join in
the dancing!
And of course, the program will also feature our honorary Québécois co-president,
a global musical ambassador who makes us proud to be Montréalers: brilliant pianist
and composer Alain Lefèvre.
We remind everyone that Alain was with us for the very first edition of the festival
in 2000, in the triumphant closing concert with the OSM, and solo in 2004.
It’s important to remember that this is Lefèvre the composer rather than the performing
artist, bringing us his own compositions in this recital in the Maison symphonique—an
occasion rare enough to merit mention!
And the musical pleasure continues with an array of other headliners and performances
including Diana Krall,
The Zombies (the first
Montreal visit in their long career!), the
Festival mondial du cirque de demain,
-M-, Bernard Adamus,
Les Muses orphelines,
Orelsan,
Daniel Lavoie,
Marius et Fanny, Voca
People and Bénabar,
Montreal premieres for Luc De Larochellière
and Andrea Lindsay, Marie-
Josée Lord (co-president of the 2011 edition),
Karim Ouellet, Catherine
Durand, Dany Placard,
Jipé Dalpé, an album launch
from Anik Jean and even
concerts created especially for MEL, including one from
Pierre Lapointe.
